The Daniels Construction team managing the Olbrich Gardens first dedicated educational space completed construction and turned over the 9,000-square-foot, LEED Platinum-designed space in early fall 2019. Built with purposeful, sustainable features, including a 60,000 underground cistern to capture and reuse rainwater to meet the gardens watering demands means on an annual basis, the Learning Center will use 67% less energy than a building built to minimum code standards. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a scorecard of site design metrics, building design, sustainability, renewable energy, and other measurable standards. Additionally, Daniels was responsible for the replacement of the outdated production greenhouses, initially built in 1992. Both new buildings complement the existing campus with low visual impact to the gardens. For their efforts, the project was honored with the 2020 Associated Builders and Contractors Project of Distinction.
